Releaseparty #2 – now in Copenhagen

We are so glad that AMYGDALA is finally here that one releaseparty just doesn't seem like enough - so we are going to throw one more this time in Copenhagen.

We would love to see you there. So stop by Musiksmag (Jægersborggade 43, Nørrebro) between 2PM - 6PM and join us for a sip Lambrusco in the sun, play some games, catch up with us and listen to Amygdala. For more details check the Facebook event.

We will be selling the vinyl for only 100KR.
And Marie will probably loop perform a song or two. Which one would you like to hear?

"Elles Lys" perhaps?

The Difference is Fossilence

So, we had an extraordinarysupertastic release concert. We are really glad so many came to celebrate with us.

Our friends in Fossils even gave us a speciel gift - can you quess which song this is a cover version of?

That's right, it's dear old "The Difference" receiving an even heavier dosis of bas and drums than usual. The cover version is most appropriately named "Fossilence".

Listen to the original right here:

Below you find a couple of pics from the evening. We are so looking forward to playing in Tivoli later this month.

Somewhere Behind My Lips

"Somewhere Behind My Lips" is now right before your eyes.

This is our new single from the upcoming album Amygdala (out April 4th).
Look how it's all shiny, bony and psychedelic.

Have you ever heard of Musicure? It's music that you can buy at your pharmacy and it is supposed to give you certain feelings. Amygdala can also be seen as music medicine that tries to trigger your feelings but which effect it will bring is not predictable since the record is brand new.

"Somewhere Behind My Lips" is the unofficial title track seen as it revolves around amygdala - a small area in the brain's frontal lope. It's a little almond shaped unit that deals with fear and defense reactions. It can be activated by smell, taste and other senses and have an autonomous way of controlling functions like your breathing or (more unfortunately) your bowel movements.

We sincerely hope that "Somewhere Behind Your Lips" trigger your happy feelings and dancing lust instead of more frightful reactions.

The artist behind the video is Olaf Zhiga who is also the mastermind behind the visuals we play on our videosynths at live performances. See more of his works here or come join us at our releaseshow at Radar (Aarhus) 4th of April.

ACDC vs MARYBELL KATASTROPHY

Hello people. Dish of the day is REALITY TV.

ACDC vs MARYBELL KATASTROPHY

In the rainy month of March this year, Marie Højlund and drummer Klaus Q Hedegaard performed a couple of AC/DC cover songs as a duo at Copenhagen Jazzhouse. The show was "one night only", and because of redwine related circumstances, it wasn't recorded. What a shame..

A couple of days later we decided to "improvise" the songs once again at our rehersal room - this time in front of a low budget video recorder - for you to see, and for us to remember.

So here you go!
We start out with a solo performance of "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap".

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap from Marybell Katastrophy on Vimeo.

You like it? - Please share it.
More videos from this session in couple of days. Stay tuned!

By the way.. Don't remember the original AC/DC version?

Take a look right here: AC/DC - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (LIVE)

Are you a tech nerd? Here's a treat.

Synth playing mix/master nerd, Emil Thomsen, bought a new gizmo.
It's the amazingly rare MicroGotar made by Gotharman!

This sucker is a time machine that takes you back to the heavenly distorted 8bit 80's.
Its complicated, sofisticated and up to no good!

.

Wanna know more?
Visit the Gotharman website or beg Mr. Thomsen for a demo after one of our shows!

Thats all for today folks.

Concerts, remixes and tour-pics

A lot of things have happened in Marybell Katastrophy-land lately.

Germany
The band had a great tour in Germany last week where they visited Hamburg & Berlin along with The Malpactice. Johannes, leadsinger and wordsmith in The Malpractice, sent home a tour diary for the danish music magazine Gaffa. In between the food and computer game tips, rants about traffic in big cities and noise restrictions you also get to hear about the concerts: links to part 1, 2 & 3 (in danish).

You can find pictures from the concert in Berlin by clicking the image.

Tectonics Repercussions
The Malpractice & Marybell Katastrophy are like two youngsters tongue-kissing, it's impossible to tell or tear them appart. Marie Højlund and Q. are playing with 'Malleren' and Johannes sometimes joins Marybell onstage as well. And do you remember the post about the Marybell remix of The Malpractice song "Human Condition"? Now it has been released digitally along with remixes from among others Jenny Wilson, Bredvig and... wow can this get more intertwined? - the other half of Marybell Katastrophy, Jakob Schweppenhäuser and Emil Thomsen, also known as the experimental electronical duo Schweppenhäuser/Thomsen (shortened SCHWTH).
Listen to all the remixes here.

Free concert in Aalborg
Aalborg is having a festival in July and has invited Marybell to join the fun. It happens outdoors at Gammel Torv, June 10th at 8 PM sharp! The best part is that it's a free concert. So pack the picnic basket and enjoy a summernight out. Join and share the Facebook event right here.

Concerts in the fall
For all those of you who can't make to Aalborg in July here is some good news. 10 danish shows in November just in time to show of the new material, it's gonna be so great. Read more and check if your town is on the to-do list right here.

That's all I can think of for now - have a lovely weekend

New Video Has Everything But The Rhino

It's only been a week since we released the new single 'There Is No Rhino In This Room' and it is already spinning on the Danish radio channel P6 Beat.

And now it's got a visuel makeover.

Credits; Zuhal Koçan

Dissolving images and cut up pictures swirl around in a safari setting.
The video is inspired by Karen Segall's wonderfull designs and the colourful pictures are taken by Zuhal Koçan. It has all been put together by the band's own Jakob Schweppenhäuser who has done an awesome job with it.
Enjoy!

Good Old Germany – We’re Back

*Notice: this is no April Fool joke... or maybe... nope it's for real*

Lise here with a tour update:

Marybell Katastrophy and The Malpractice are once again joining forces, and this time they are headed for Germany.

This is where the wild things go:

17/5 Astra-Stube, Hamburg

18/5 Schokoladen, Berlin

The mini-tour celebrates that The Malpractice's debutalbum Tectonics is being released in Germany. And also that Marybell Katastrophy have used 2010 to compose new fantastic songs for an album that are going to come out late 2011.  You can already listen to the 3 new songs 'Difference', 'Heavy Industry' & 'Knight Song' via the sidebar player.

And for those of you who don't know The Malpractice - where drummer Q. and leadsinger Marie also are a part of the lineup - it is Johannes Gammelby known from such "supa-dupa dope bands like the grungy I Am Bones and the hate-rock-y Beta Satan. As awesome mastermind-with-friends-outfit, demanding your attention as The Malpractice, hell is being raised!" The Malpractice takes grunge and aggressive rock as a point of departure, though they also adds pophooks and noisy synthesizers in a dirty, violent, existentialist universe. Hit singles includes "Oh, The Irony" and "Boss Stallion".

Together they aim to celebrate the good melody and create even better times.

New in – New out

Hello

I'm new to the family. My name is Lise, Marybell Katastrophy aficionada and internet wizzard in the making.  My job is to give Marybell.dk an interactive facelift as well as occasionally update you guys with news from Katastrophy-ville.

Marybell Katastrophy & The Malpractice send their best to all of you and say thanks for an awesome Denmark tour. For those of you who couldn't make it - as well as for the nostalgics - enjoy the following video from the live performance of "Dl 10" from The More at Voxhall, Aarhus.

Tjit Tjat has commented on the joined venture of MaryMalleren – aka. how Marie and Q. are involved in both Marybell katastrophy and The Malpractice. Read the review here (in danish).

As for the new and exciting things happening behind the scenes at Marybell.dk - we'll get back to that another time.

Today Today We Are Heavy Industry

We feel that it is time to tell you that we are working on gathering all the new Marybell songs, to make a whole bunch of songs coming out at the same time (in the beginning of next year). In the old days it was called an album. That´s why were a little distant the last couple of months. Soon we will play some shows and release some songs together, as a real band is supposed to do! But untill then you can listen to one of the new songs called Heavy Industry right here, right now!
